This artwork draws inspiration from Guangzhou’s timeless myth of the Five Goats, the foundational legend that gave the city its nickname “City of Goats”. Created with visual isomorphism, the design shapes an unbloomed golden kapok bud — Guangzhou’s city flower — into the head of a goat. Two grain ears stretch outwards, serving simultaneously as goat horns and the sacred grain brought by five immortals in the ancient tale. At the bud’s centre, the silhouette of Canton Tower rises as the flower’s stamen, bridging the millennium-old folklore and the city’s modern urban identity. The vertical black strokes at the bottom represent the goat’s beard. Set against a bold solid red background, the colour symbolises joy, warmth and vibrant vitality of the southern Chinese city.
